A Detroit native raised in the city of Hamtramck, Marquis has
established himself at the backbone of Detroit's hip hop community.
His talents have earned him the respect of his peers and are
gaining the attention of a larger audience.
In late 1995 Marquis formed a crew called Internal Affairs and
began performing around Detroit. In the years that followed, his
live performance earned him gigs everywhere around the
Metro-Detroit area, including the Blind Pig (Ann Arbor), St.
Andrews (Detroit), Legends (Detroit), 7th house (Pontiac), The
Velvet Lounge (Pontiac), Motor (Hamtramck), Windsor Sports Arena
(Windsor, Ontario), Club Hieldelberg (Ann Arbor), Alvin's
(Detroit), JP's Macomb Theatre (Mt. Clemens), and more than twenty
underground events. His steady presence in the performing circuit
has played a major role in his development and current status as an
artist. Marquis has also opened for such hip hop heavy weights as
Eminem, Slum Village, The GZA, the Hieroglyphics crew, the Lords of
da Underground, and Biz Markie.
His debut independent single, "All about Me!", was released in
1996. Since that time he has made guest appearances on several
recording projects, including Marco Polo's first effort, the E & J
remix album, and a commercial for the Bushman Show on Detroit's
largest hip hop and r & b station, FM 98 WJLB. Marquis has worked
with many of Detroit's hip hop artists, inlcuding, Eminem, Bizarre,
Da Brigade, Paradime, L.Z., T. da Pimp, Rican, Binary Star, and
Mass Hysteria. He has also worked with the producers EPOD,
Biochemist, Mad chemist, J.D., Hush, and DJ Head.
His "Rock Tha Beat/Feel the Vibe" 12" marked his debut on the DTW
label in summer 2000. Marquis & DJ Don Q are looking to finish
their first full-length album with help from DJ Godfather, Jon
Layne, and Julian Tizol. |
