The Detroit Grand Pubahs, aka Paris the Black Fu & Andy (Dr.
Toefinger) Toth, were brought together by the forces of slave
labor. Paris toiled for years as a snow cone operator at the
Detroit Zoo, where he met Andy, who was cleaning gorilla cages in
hopes of one day becoming a world-class zoo keeper.
3 months into their new-found friendship Andy expressed his desire
to make music, only to find that Paris' feelings were mutual.
After a short time, they both quit their jobs and found new ones
that would enable them to have the time to develop both their
friendship and musical partnership. Paris became a casino
construction worker and Andy entered an internship under the noted
Detroit proctologist Dr. Bootygrabber. They would meet after work
to scheme musically, discuss their influences, and come up with a
master plan.
They also searched for a studio space large enough for making
music, while at the same time allowing Toth to continue his
newfound research and Paris to prepare for his childhood dream of
becoming an expert cloner. One day while playing doctor in an
abandoned schoolyard, Paris discovered an unused secret passage,
whichhe promptly investigated. He explored for miles and miles
until he came upon an old fallout shelter equipped with running
water, electricity, full laboratory, an old 26' x 12' military
Jumbotron monitor, 5 bedrooms, and both a cyrogenic storage unit &
walk-in refrigerator. He and Andy move in immediately.
Once they got settled, they combined their earnings, invested in
some equipment (a blender, washer/dryer, lifetime subscription to
Club magazine, and, most importantly, a keyboard) and became the
under-city dwellers now known as the Detroit Grand Pubahs. After 6
months of hard work, they had come up with some inspiring material,
but still no songs that would define their sound. Then one day
Andy, who had by this time cultivated quite a sizeable
hydroponically grown "herb" garden, was watching "Hunt for Red
October" on the Jumbotron while enjoying the fruits of his labor.
Inspiration struck when the large Russian sub turned into a
delicious 50-foot long pepperoni, mushroom, wheatgrass and cilantro
hoagie. Toth immediately summoned Paris, and the track
"Sandwiches" was born.
The Pubahs are now set to exit their underground lair and take on
the world. "Sandwiches" has found its way onto almost every major
A-list DJ Chart around the world, and has been named "Essential New
Tune" on England's illustrious Radio 1. The band wowed audiences
with their extremely visual live show at the Winter Music
Conference, and they have been compared to Prince, Rick James, Old
Dirty Bastard, Mr. Oizo, George Clinton and more by a press
struggling to come to grips with their unique sound. Find out for
yourself what all the fuss is about before they change things up
and send us all on a new journey.
